Springfield, Illinois – The City of Springfield’s fall, six-week yard waste drop off program will begin Monday, October 31 and go through Saturday, December 10.

Residents within the corporate limits of Springfield can drop off their yard waste to Evans Recycling during this time period.

Proof of residency is required by showing your complete CWLP bill. Evans is located at 2100 J. David Jones Parkway and is open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday hours will be extended from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. during this drop off period.

After December 10, the fee to drop off will be $1 per bag. As a reminder, the City’s “no sticker”, bi-weekly yard waste curbside pick-up program runs until the end of March, 2023. Residents may also consider “Grass-cycling” which is mulching leaves and grass when you maintain your lawns.

Areas outside the City of Springfield corporate limits are required to pay for drop off as well as have yard waste stickers for their residential pick-up.

WHAT IS YARD WASTE?

Yard waste is composed of grass clippings, leaves, weeds, plant trimmings and/or small twigs and branches.

No plastic bags can be used and yard waste must be free of contamination including food, rocks, dirt, large branches, flower pots/trays, animal droppings and street waste. It is the responsibility of residents to keep their yard waste free of contaminants. If contaminants are found, yard waste will not be collected or accepted.

If have questions about the bi-weekly pick-up schedule or drop off program, please contact Public Works at 217.789.2255 or public.works@springfield.il.us.

Even though the next scheduled City of Springfield branch collection will take place in November, the City’s yard waste/leaf pick-up and drop off programs are different from the city’s branch pick-up service.

Branch pick-up is operated by the City of Springfield’s Public Works crews and information about the branch pick-up schedule is available on our City website www.springfield.il.us.

As a reminder, smaller branches and twigs may be broken up and placed in yard waste bags or containers for pick-up and/or drop off.
