A massive fix-up of Springfield’s Poplar Place apartments would use $2 million in tax increment financing toward the $38 million project — if it passes the city council. Ald. Shawn Gregory is looking forward to the debate and vote.
“If we dont as a body like what we see, then we hold it or we deny it; but i think at this point we have what’s required with our developers agreement,” Gregory said as the council, as a committee of the whole, advanced the measure to this week’s debate agenda. “I want to see a high minority percentage (of labor). As far as a body moving forward, as far as showing the community we are sincere in what we want to do. we’ll handle it (Tuesday) when it’s time to vote.”
There’s concern of how much union labor the developer is committed to using, a question which could be answered Tuesday.
