Springfield Public Schools board members Tuesday chose Jeff Tucka (pictured, right) to fill the unexpired term of the late Mike Zimmers.
Tucka, who told reporters after his selection that he intends to run for the full term in the spring, is the parent of two District 186 children and is a chemist with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
The other six board members chose him from a field of seven applicants.
