Somebody new will be calling Cardinals games on television in 2023.

Following his third DUI arrest, Dan McLaughlin and Bally Sports Midwest are parting ways by what was described as a mutual decision. McLaughlin, 48, had completed his 24th season in the booth when he was pulled over in suburban St. Louis Dec. 4.

There is no word on who will replace McLaughlin on television.

“I have spent the last several days reflecting on my next steps towards addressing my health and the well-being of my family and me,” McLaughlin said in a statement, issued by himself and Bally Sports Midwest. “I have come to the conclusion that my sole focus needs to be on my recovery, which I have started, and that of my wife and children. As a result, I am stepping away from my duties at Bally’s Sports Midwest.”

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Jupiter, Fla., Feb. 12.

McLaughlin’s previous DUI convictions were in 2010 and 2011. A story MLB.com posted to the Cardinals’ web site says it’s possible McLaughlin will be declared a “persistent” drunk driver if he is convicted a third time.

John Rooney is set to begin his 17th year in the Cardinals’ radio booth, joined by Ricky Horton and Mike Claiborne. WTAX airs all Cardinals radio broadcasts. McLaughlin was heard on some games in 2022, games not carried by Bally.
