You might say high-speed Internet is a necessity, not a frill. And, because of money from the American Rescue Plan Act, another 87,000 homes and businesses in Illinois will get into the 21-st Century.

“When the American Rescue Plan was signed into law over a year and a half ago, our country was in the darkest days of the pandemic,” said U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.). “And now, the American Rescue Plan is making programs like the Capital Projects Fund possible.”

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) likened the expansion to your grandparents’ stories of getting electricity on the farm for the first time.

There are still an estimated 250,000 homes and businesses in Illinois without access to broadband.
