The state of Illinois hopes 2023 is the year of the electric vehicle!

The state has a $4,000 rebate in addition to the $7,500 tax credit available from the federal government. And Mark Denzler, president of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association, says there’s something for automakers.

“The incentives that Gov. (JB) Pritzker signed into law will help with large auto manufacturers that want to produce EV’s in Illinois – or batteries – and, more importantly, they are supply chains,” said Denzler. “Illinois is a big automotive state, and, as large auto manufacturers move toward electrification, they will need suppliers as well.

This would be a boost after Chrysler’s parent company shut down its plant near Rockford. Rivian is making electric vehicles in Bloomington-Normal, but factories have not followed it into Illinois thus far.

Denzler hopes new incentives could include a “closing fund” to help the governor ward off other states swooping in at the last minute to woo a business away.

Denzler was a guest on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.
