Sangamon County Sheriff, Jack Campbell, took the occasion of the 911 Ride to Remember gathering at the State Capitol grounds to debut a new look for his department.

Campbell says his deputies wanted a more distinctive look to their uniforms in order to set them apart from other law enforcement agencies.

So, he went shopping for new hats.

The result is 92 new ‘cowboy style’ hats for his departments dress uniforms.

The hats were purchased from the Stetson company, known for their western wear.

Campbell says the hats will only be used for dress occasions for now, but he says the deputies are anxious to make the hats part of their regular daily service uniforms.

He says the hats are a contrasting color to their dark brown uniforms and won’t display a badge.
