To celebrate the visit of a Mexican governor to Springfield, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum put on a show Tuesday.
It was not just any show. “Of Mutual Interest” depicts budding U. S.- Mexican relations during the Lincoln presidency.
“Senor Romero was sent to Springfield by President Benito Juarez in January 1861 to meet Mr. Lincoln,” museum curator James Cornelius told the audience in explaining what was about to unfold.
The visit represented the first congratulations from another country to the new president-elect.
