Two people were injured after a train derailed in Lowder early Thursday morning.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s department says a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train was being backed onto a rail spur to be loaded with corn when ice and snow caused it to fall off the tracks. The cars began toppling supports for the property’s control room, which caused the non-life threatening injuries.
Both employees were taken to Memorial Medical Center.
About 100,000 bushels of corn spilled from a loading boom on the ground.
