When it’s public comment time at Springfield city council meetings, you may hear about stray animals, child custody disputes, a favorite football team, and more.

Ald. Chuck Redpath says if members of the public speak on something that’s not on the agenda … they should be limited to three minutes rather than five.

“We’re basically trying to cut down on the things that don’t pertain to what the city council business is,” said Redpath. “Obviously, if council members want to hear more about it, we’re going to give them more time.”

Currently, members of the public are limited to five minutes.
