The National Weather Service is predicting dangerously heavy and cold winds that will create wind chill effects as low as -17 degrees Saturday and Saturday night.

Heavy snow is forecasted for northern counties in Central Illinois starting on Friday but the Springfield area should only see a dusting or up to 2 inches.

Ed Shimon, meteorologist with NOAH says the heavy winds could create blowing and drifting, hazardous travel conditions, stress on power lines and great danger to the homeless.
