The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, has identified the 73 year-old man who was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital from a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 55 near the Clear Lake exit yesterday.
Darrell Elkin of Bloomington was pronounced dead at 10:00am by emergency room staff shortly after his arrival.
An autopsy has been done and preliminary findings suggest Elkin died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision.
The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police.
