UIS kicked off its month-long celebration of Black History with a candlelight vigil held at the Student Union on campus Thursday.
Several speakers talked about the African/American experience in their lives and two short films were presented, one about a chapter in Black History and the other about the Black experience on the UIS campus.
A senior studying biology with an eye toward pediatrics by the name of Anthony Hightower, Jr. performed his own piano composition entitled Keep Going. Hightower taught himself how to play and compose during the COVID lockdown.
Chancellor Janet Gooch was in attendance.
