February is the month set aside to spotlight heart health and the Illinois Dept of Public Health says it’s important to start early in developing healthy habits that can ensure a lifetime of fitness.
Dr. Sameer Vohra, the director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, met with a group of kids and families at the downtown YMCA in Springfield to encourage a good diet, exercise and plenty of rest in young and old alike.
He tells WTAX News while a lot of focus has been on COVID in recent years, cardiovascular disease remains the number one killer in the US.
Dr. Vohra says there is a lot of good information on heart health to be found at DPH.illinois.gov.
