Springfield School District 186 Board members will consider a major change to next year’s calendar that would add more classroom days for children and change how professional development time is handled with teachers.

“Reducing the number of teacher institute days.  These are days that occur before the school year and throughout the school year….these are days where the kids stay home and the teachers have come and have a professional development day” says Hill of a committee’s recommendation.

He says changes could include with more collaboration time overall.

Students would have an additional 5 days added to their school year but the school day would start an hour later one day a week. Hill urged the school board Monday night to adopt the new schedule soon to allow parents time to adjust their schedules.
