A couple of blocks across the street from the Governor’s Mansion will get a new look but, what the makeover will be is an open question.
A committee formed by Springfield Mayor Mike Houston has been charged with fielding ideas of how the land housing the old YWCA building could be transformed. Springfield purchased the land from the state and is now soliciting Request-for-Proposals in the coming months.
North Mansion Block Committee chair Corey Jobe says he is hoping to get an RFP issued by next spring.
“The city wants to reach out to developers for their ideas,” Jobe says. “We also want to hear from the public on what we could do.”
Jobe says it is too early to tell if the building could be rehabilitated or should be demolished.
