Springfield aldermen again agreed on an ordinance to divert another 1-million dollars to the police and fire pensions

A supplemental appropriation that was previously approved by the council to provide funds for  the shortfall in the police and firefighters pension funds was re-introduced Tuesday night to update some language.  Alderman Frank Lesko says he wanted to push the payment off until the end of the city’s fiscal year.

“This is a bad business move when we don’t have to spend the money. We are current right now,” says Lesko.

City Budget Director Bill McCarty agreed saying there could be other unforeseen expenses to include new automation for the city.

Ultimately, the ordinance passed.
