Long-time Springfield City Council Coordinator Joe Davis announced his plans to retire towards the end of the year, but Springfield aldermen spent more than an hour arguing about the method to fill the position Tuesday night

At issue was whether a sub-committee be should be established or should the council deal with it as a whole.  When asked if he would work on a contractual basis to ease a new coordinator into the position, Davis seemeed to be caught off guard.

“I plan spending the month or more in Florida.  I’d then have to come back earlier.  That’s were  I stand right now,” Davis said.

Ultimately, aldermen agreed to form a committee on a split vote.    The topic was the subject of a special Committee-of-the-Whole meeting called to discuss to topic after Tuesday’s regular city council meeting.
