After weeks of haggling, Springfield aldermen by a vote of 9-to-1 passed a new spending plan that takes effect March 1st tonight (Tuesday).

The lone ‘no’ vote came for Alderman Joe McMenamin who also failed in his bid to give the city council the authority to grant raises for non-union city employees.  That amendment went nowhere as no one on the council would second the motion.

The FY-15 budget is 2-point-8 percent more than the current spending plan at $594-million.
