Amtrak is running a limited schedule Monday in Illinois, with multiple runs cancelled due to cold weather.
“Two of the St. Louis round-trips, we wound up cancelling all the Quincy round-trips today, some of the Hiawathas and one of the Michigan round-trips on the Wolverine route,” Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said.
The problem with trains between Quincy and Chicago is that the tracks are closed at Mendota. The BNSF Railway is trying to get the tracks reopened. The cross-country trains that serve Galesburg are running via a detour through Streator, but those trains are not stopping in Naperville or Princeton.
Magliari says fewer people are travelling today, so they can all be accommodated by the reduced frequency.
