An eighteen-year Grant Middle School math teacher, Jill Borah, is the 2021-2022 District 186 Horace Mann Educator of the Year.

Borah, an alum of GMS and Springfield High School, envisioned new uses of the “flipped classroom” technique before it became necessary to use such methods for remote learning during the pandemic.

“My biggest thing is I want to build relationships with the students,” Borah said to gym packed with those excited to celebrate her accomplishment. “The math will come, but that comes second. I want to learn about them and what they’re excited about and what makes them thrive.”

Along with Thursday afternoon’s accolades came a $1,400 check from Horace Mann to help fund Borah’s creativity in the classroom.
