Springfield firefighters responded Tuesday to a multiple-apartment fire on the city’s southwest side.
The blaze at 13 Candlewood Drive was extinguished just before 4:30. Springfield Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hart says the injured woman likely suffered from smoke inhalation but will be okay, she was responsive to authorities.
Hart says the fire affected three units, which are now uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
UPDATE: The total damage estimate given Tuesday afternoon has been updated to include eight units in Chatham Hills Apartments, two of which are uninhabitable due to massive fire and smoke damage, and six that received smoke damage to the point where residents were displaced.
