What is the health of the area economy? Well, it seems it still has a pulse.

The semi-annual survey conducted by the UIS Survey Research Office indicates while there is reason to be concerned, the local economy is at least improving somewhat. Ashley Kirzinger, director of the office says the majority of the more than 200 business owners that responded to the survey say the are breathing a little easier.

“It is pretty consistent with what we’ve seen in the last six months.  There is an uptick in expectations for the overall Sangamon County,” says Kirzinger.

Construction, manufacturing, retail and, healthcare executives say they are cautiously optimistic about their sectors but, leaders of non-profits say will be another tough year. Their biggest concern is the continued late-payments to their organizations.
