The Republican candidate for a new, open Congressional seat in Downstate Illinois, picking up an endorsement from a major business group, touts her agriculture bona fides.

“My particular interest in education is especially valuable in ag education,” Regan Deering of Decatur said outside the Sangamon County Farm Bureau in Springfield Tuesday. “We have a great opportunity here in not only central Illinois, but throughout the state and country, to continue to grow our own, and that’s an important piece to the succession plan here to the ag industry in Illinois and across the country.

“We are feeding the world.”

And, as all Republicans are being asked about then-President Trump’s claim the 2020 election was stolen, Deering said, “In 2020, constitutionally, we have Joe Biden serving as our president, currently” before pivoting to discuss what a terrible job she says he is doing, saying “policy is on the ballot in 2022.” Given another chance to answer the question about 2020, Deering said then-Vice President “Mike Pence did the right thing” to certify the election result in Biden’s favor.

The Illinois Farm Bureau’s political action committee, Activator, endorsed Deering over Democrat Nikki Budzinski of Springfield.
