The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (ILBCF) and members of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus are collaborating to honor our country’s military men and women with multi-locale Veterans Day events. At each location, veterans are able to come and receive free groceries, consult with participating state agencies regarding veteran-specific resources, and gift giveaways.

On Thursday, the Foundation hosted a pop-up grocery giveaway event at CAP 1908 Innovation & Coworking Center at 1100 S. Grand Ave. East from 2-4pm.

The ILBCF will be holding additional resource events for veterans across the state and in the following locations (with corresponding date):

  • Friday, 11/10 (12-2pm): William E. Earnest Post 559 (704 N. Hickory St., Champaign, IL)

  • Friday, 11/10 (3-6pm): Compassion Baptist Church (2650 E. 95th St., Chicago, IL)

  • Saturday, 11/11 (10am-noon): Our Lady of Africa Parish (607 E. Oakwood Blvd., Chicago, IL)

  • Sunday, 11/12 (2-4pm): 801 S. McAlister Ave., Waukegan, IL

The Foundation is honoring the late Raymond W. Ewell, who prior to serving the 29th District in the Illinois General Assembly and helping found the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus in 1967, also served in the U.S. Army. Ewell passed away in October 2022 and was the last-surviving founding member of the Caucus.

The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation thanked the sponsors who have made it all possible: HyVee, Schnucks, Kroger, Mariano’s, InstaCart and Wal-Mart.
