The Illinois General Assembly has sent the governor a bill that would allow bobcat hunting.
The sponsor, State Sen. Sam “Bobcat” McCann says, “The Illinois Department of Natural Resources came to the Illinois Federation of Outdoor Resources and said, our bobcat population is growing, it’s meeting a threshold at which other states have enacted a bobcat season.”
The season would be Nov. 1 through Feb. 15.
State Sen. Dan Kotowski said the extended debate was misplaced.
“There are kids who can’t even get to school every day,” he said, his voice rising. “And we don’t debate that bill as long as we possibly can!”
Lawmakers have adjourned until next month. There is no indication on what action Governor Quinn will take.
