Brookport is showing signs of recovery six months after a tornado swept through the area, killing four people.
Cleanup efforts are over in the 1,000-resident Ohio River community. But the effort continues to put people who were displaced by the Nov. 17 tornado into their new homes. The Massac and Pope County Recovery Committee is using federal money or insurance to build homes for those who can’t afford to rebuild.
The Brookport twister was one of about two dozen that rolled across Illinois that day. It stayed on the ground for 11 miles.
