Tearing down a structure in Springfield is not an unusual occurrence but when the walls of a brick building end up in the street, that is unusual.

A long vacant structure at the corner of 11th and Madison Streets was torn down Tuesday afternoon, but much of the debris ended up in the roadway causing traffic to be re-routed shortly afternoon. Crews cleared the debris and the busy intersection was re-opened around 1:30 p.m.

No one was hurt. A search of city records doesn’t indicate what may go onto that lot.
