District 186 school board members are considering a construction plan in which a new school would replace three older buildings: Hazel Dell, Laketown, and Southern View.

Proponents say all three buildings have small enrollments – fewer than 200 students each – and, structurally, may not be worth fixing up.

Board member Micah Miller resisted, saying more study is needed. He was also cool to the idea that a new school would be built on a site apart from the current buildings, as opposed to, say, where Laketown sits now.

Public hearings will give the public a chance to weigh in: March 29 at Hazel Dell, April 6 at Southern View, and April 12 at Laketown. All are at 6 p. m.
