Republicans Regan Deering and Terry Martin introduced themselves to voters and took questions at a public forum Tuesday night, hosted by Faith Coalition for the Common Good. Jesse Reising, also a Republican, did not participate citing a scheduling conflict. On the democrat side were primary opponents Nikki Budzinski and David Palmer.

Topics ranged from climate change to abortion to whether or not Joe Biden was legitimately elected president.

To distinguish themselves from their primary opponents, Budzinski said she’s best positioned to deliver things like a $15/hr. federal minimum wage, while her opponent, David Palmer, says he represents an independent legislative option free of Washington influence.

For the Republicans, Deering cited her experience as a leader in local business and her capacity to work as a problem solver. Martin touted his extensive experience in journalism and business as well as his willingness to work pragmatically with those of different ideologies.

Once the general election field is set, Faith Coalition for the Common Good may host another such forum, according to Shelly Heideman the group’s executive director.

Early voting is already underway ahead of Illinois’s June 28th primary.
