One area police agency says its policies have not changed despite the state’s concealed/carry law.
Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell says more than 18-hundred permits for concealed weapons have been granted in the county but his deputies still treat every traffic stop the same and, so far, he hasn’t seen any problems with the law.
“We know they have them but I haven’t had anyone (deputy) come back and say ‘I’ve got a should holster on.'” says Campbell. “We are very careful when we approach a car. Every deputy has their own unique way of approaching a car and asking certain questions at the window”
The Illinois State Police grants the permits but consults with local law enforcement officials first. Campbell says they have receommended two applications be denied because of past criminal behavior.
