To help launch the 2014 boating season, the Illinois Conservation Police is offering free boat inspections.
Authorities will go through a checklist to see that boaters have working life jackets, fire extinguishers, navigation lights and battery covers. One thing the officers won’t do is write tickets for violations — at least not for that one day of free inspections.
Lake Springfield’s Lindsay Boat Launch is one of the locations.
