When it comes to the race for governor, the Sangamon County GOP hasn’t yet picked a favorite.
County Auditor and Lincoln Day Dinner chair Paul Palazzolo says the county is not ready to stand behind any one candidate for the governor’s office in next month’s GOP primary.
“We are going to see how the primary plays out. We have a lot of people who are really loyal to three of the candidates; mainly Bill Brady, Dan Rutherford, and Senator Kirk Dillard” says Palazzolo.
The Prairie Capitol Convention Center stood as the backdrop the annual dinner that drew more than 1,100 people. Three of the four candidates made brief remarks to rally the rank and file to vote next month.
Bruce Rauner was not in attendance.
Fox Television commentator Dr. Ben Carson delivered the keynote address. Although Carson’s past remarks have garnered criticism, Palazzolo says the outspoken retired neurosurgeon was the hands-down favorite to join the event.
