Sure, WTAX is the home locally of the Saint Louis Cardinals, but that doesn’t mean we can’t tell you about what arguably is kind of a big deal for the capital city Wednesday.
After a visit with lawmakers at the Illinois Capitol, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will play host to the Chicago Cubs World Series Championship trophy in the afternoon, and it will be open to the public.
“We’ll be there around 2:30. We’re scheduled to be there for 90 minutes, but we’ll see how big the crowd is. Maybe it will be be a little longer,” says Michael Lufrano, Cubs Executive Vice President of Community Affairs. “We’ve been taking the trophy on tour. So far, it’s gone more than 17,000 miles, it’s gone to eight states, and we’re excited to bring it to Springfield.”
Lufrano says if you go to the museum Wednesday, look — but don’t touch.
“You can’t touch it. It’s not the same as the Stanley Cup. The World Series trophy is a little more fragile. Getting a picture with it is certainly a possibility,” says Lufrano. “The way we’ve been working it, the first 500 people in line will get a wrist band. We’ll guarantee that we’ll get through at least 500 photographs, so those folks will get a picture. Anybody else we’ll get to as time permits.”
The museum says people will start getting admitted for the viewing starting at 12:30.
