The snowier-than-normal winter had one benefit: things are looking for better for boaters on Lake Springfield this year; at least so far.
After a few years below its normal level, CWLP Water Division Manager Ted Meckes says this past winter has brought the lake up to full pool.
“We were about two-and-half, three feet down up until the recent snow-melt and that filled the lake up” says Meckes.
Meckes says the utility is constantly monitoring the lake level and newly installed flood gates will mitigate any flooding that might occur by allowing CWLP to discharge excess water to area tributaries.
The National Weather Service is predicting normal amounts of rain through May.
