A refugee from a Monopoly game provided the comic relief Wednesday during a brief Governor’s Day program on the Director’s Lawn at the Illinois State Fair.
The emcee told “Baron von Moneybags” of “.01 Percenters for Rauner” he had the wrong day. The “Baron” blamed his “$18 watch.” The watch may have been a cheapie, but the rest of his ensemble included a top hat, tails, and flowing white mustache.
Gov. Pat Quinn rallied the troops, some of whom bused down from Chicago for the occasion.
This was the second straight year Illinois Democrats went to lengths to avoid any protestors or confederates. For a time, even reporters were kept out of the ticketed event.
Thursday is Republican Day at the fair.
