It will not be Joby Crumm as the new Boys Basketball coach at Springfield High School — at least, not yet.

The District-186 board rejected Crumm’s hiring.  While three board members voted in favor of Crumm, four voted “present” — meaning, the move failed.  Those voting “present” were board president Adam Lopez, and members Chuck Flamini, Judy Johnson, and Blake Handley.

Lopez, who referred to Crumm as his coach, said he was voting “present” because of the hiring process.  Superintendent Jennifer Gill described that as the interviewing of candidates by a committee led by the principal, including teachers, parents, former athletes, and a community member.  Gill says she would not have put forth Crumm’s name if the process wasn’t done appropriately.

It’s not clear what the district will do from here.  Gill says she has yet to determine what the next steps will be.
