It’s not just the hundreds of classic cars or thousands of people that demand a second look, but celebrity lookalikes, too, at the this year’s International Route 66 Mother Road Festival in downtown Springfield.
From monster boom boxes, to live music, to food that will make you think the Illinois Stare Fair never left town, the 21st annual International Mother Road Festival has it all and continues through 2 p.m. Sunday.
“There are things to do everywhere. Seeing everybody happy . . . all ages. It’s fabulous,” said Greg Cooper, organizer of this year’s event. This is Cooper’s second year leading the fest. “It’s crazy,” he said. “The good kind of crazy.”
Cooper is a well-known local celebrity with close ties to the classic car community. Host of Powerlight, Powerlight Fest at the Illinois State Fair, and the Powerlight Abe Lincoln Car Show, Cooper was also a longtime on air-personality for COOL 101.9 and WDBR, both sister stations to WTAX.
