WARRENSBURG, Ill. (WAND) – Crews were called out to battle an apartment building fire in Warrensburg Monday.

Heavy flames were coming from the Diamond Apartments in the 300 block of Southland Dr. with extensive damage visible. Crews arrived to the scene around 10:30 a.m.

Residents told WAND TV they had to jump from second story windows to escape the fire.

One person was trapped for a period of time, but was able to get out.

Everyone did get out of the building, but one person did tell our crew they were not able to save their pets.

Another couple tossed their dog out of the window to save it.

The Village of Warrensburg released the following statement in a Monday afternoon Facebook post:

“I am sure you are all aware of the apartment fire this morning. The Barclay Library and Village will be setting up resources to assist those impacted. At this time, we do not have any information on the number of people impacted and what those needs are going to entail, ie: age appropriate clothing etc. We will follow up this post as more detailed information is known. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are impacted!”

The Niantic Fire Protection District confirmed to WAND News it is accepting donations Monday night. Citizens can come to the fire department after 6 p.m. Monday and provide items.
