A deadly crash involving a driver that tried to escape a traffic stop is under investigation, according to Illinois State Police. This happened Friday evening around 7.
A Menard County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make the traffic stop on a vehicle for numerous traffic violations. ISP says for unknown reasons the driver failed to stop and drove away from the deputy.
Authorities gave pursuit and the driver crashed his vehicle near the intersection of Yankeetown Road and Tomlin Road in Sangamon County.
The Sangamon County Coroner says 65 year old Randy De Groot of Springfield died at the scene.
