Springfield drivers are seeing some changes at several heavily traveled intersections.
IDOT Traffic Engineer Mike Irwin says federal money is being used to install yellow flashing left-turn arrow lights on signals along Wabash Avenue.

“This a national thing.  Several other states are doing this, it is all about safety.  This corridor had an over-abundance of areas where we had left-turn crashes,” says Irwin.

Irwin says Peoria has used the new traffic control signals and has seen a significant drop in left-turn accidents.

Intersections on Wabash Avenue between MacArthur and Veterans will be fitted with the new devices by the end of the week.
