There are many lessons to be learned from the responses to last fall’s tornados that ravaged Washington, Illinois.
Illinois Emergency Management Agency Director Jonathon Monken highlighted those at a state-wide conference of emergency managers.
While preparedness for disasters varies from community to community, Monken says most, including Washington, lack a plan for a key part of recovery.
“The number one thing hightlighted was the importance have debris removal plans in place along with a plan for handling hazardous waste that may have been stored in damaged homes or other businesses,” says Monken.
More than 1-thousand police, fire, and emergency responders gathered in Springfield this week for their annual meeting.
