As aldermen discussed whether to loosen some of the restrictions on where cannabis enterprises can locate, Alderwoman Kristin DiCenso went there.

“Let’s be very clear what this ordinance is about,” she said during the debate. “There is an alderman’s son who wants to put a craft grow operation in Ward 6 (which DiCenso represents) with a 200-foot setback. A 200-foot setback! That’s what this is about, enriching an alderman’s son.”

“That is kind of out of line,” said Ald. Joe McMenamin, chairing Tuesday’s committee of the whole.

“It’s not,” responded DiCenso. “That’s what this is about. Did I name a name?”

“You referred to (Ald.) John Fulgenzi’s son,” replied McMenamin, helpfully naming the name.

DiCenso apologized to Ald. Fulgenzi, who said, “Apology not accepted.”

“You don’t have to accept it. I don’t care,” said DiCenso, adding Jeff Fulgenzi lives in Sherman.

Aldermen vote next week whether to send the more lenient parameters to the planning and zoning commission.
