It was 87 degrees and humid in Enos Park Tuesday afternoon–perfect conditions for faux snow, a cookout, or just hanging with friends while getting to know the police who serve local neighborhoods.
That’s the point of National Night Out, a tradition started in 1984 as a way to bring cops and communities together under the best of circumstances.
Events Tuesday spanned the city and included no less than six celebrations including in Enos Park, Brandon Court, Johnson Park, Iles Park, Trevi Gardens, and the Historic Westside.
Police Chief Ken Scarlette made the rounds. “These are opportunities for us to come out in non-law enforcement settings and engage in casual conversation so people will recognize who we are as just human beings and that we’re here to help.”
Like many social events post-pandemic, National Night Out enjoyed a rebound in 2022, with attendance Tuesday into the hundreds.
