Springfield viaducts were full of water Thursday night from flash flooding. More than two inches of rain were officially recorded at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport.

At its height, the storms put 2500 CWLP customers out of power, largely between Monroe Street, Chatham Road, and Old Jacksonville Road. About fifty scattered customers remain out this morning.

Springfield police have no official reports of damage or injuries. Suffice it to say, if you see standing water ahead while you are driving, especially when approaching a viaduct, don’t chance it.

It’s a car, not a canoe.
