Springfield School District 186 School Board members are starting to get more student input on the decisions the board makes.
Superintendent Jennifer Gill brought back the notion of having a student representative sit in on board meetings and make presentations that will give board members better insight into the day-to-day concerns of students
Roseline Ewa of Springfield High told board members Tuesday night that regular roundtable meetings with student reps of the city’s high schools will strengthen the educational community.
“A lot of it is rivalry but I think the rivalry is taken too far sometimes,” says Ewa. “One idea we have is to create unity by having the schools come together to work on projects.”
Board members say they are impressed with the maturity of the students who participate and will consider taking some of their recommendations to heart.
