Jimmy Carter picked up an honorary degree from Illinois College Tuesday and also addressed a crowd on how peace in the middle east can be achieved.

Carter was invited by Dr. Khalaf Al Habtoor, a businessman from the United Arab Emirates, as Habtoor made a donation to the Jacksonville liberal arts college.

Carter says even at 90 years old, he still travels the world and continues to write.

“When I left the White House, I was 56-years old.  I still had 25  years left of life expectancy.  I didn’t know what we wanted to do and we chose this,” Carter told the crowd.

Carter says he will still try to mediate peace talks, especially between Israel and the Palestinians.
