The price of gas in Illinois continues to rise.
The statewide average is now $3.87, up 11 cents over the last month, according to the Triple-A Fuel Gauge Report. This is because we’re near the time of year when gas reaches its peak, though a decline is still a ways off, says Triple-A spokesman Beth Mosher.
“We usually see prices peak around the Fourth of July or right after the Fourth of July, and then really we get that break, but as far as the continual prices increases that we’ve seen almost since February, we think that we’re past those,” she said.
Mosher says it’s hard to know for sure, but it doesn’t look like the state average will hit $4 this year.
The current price is 8 cents cheaper than it was last year at this time. At the time of the report, the average price of regular unleaded in Sangamon County was $3.67.
