A workbook being used to teach Springfield middle schoolers about the Constituton is drawing fire from gun rights advocates around the nation.

School board member Donna Moore wants to assure parents that students are being taught accurate material.

“We do want to ensure that the information being presented is correct.  That’s where I think we need to look at this and correct what may be incorrect” says Moore.

The portion of the workbook under fire implies that registration requirements are part of the second amendment — which they’re not.

Moore says she has received few comments from local parents but has received quite a few from people who live in other states.  Moore says teachers should have some latitude in selecting curriculum and worries the issue is being blown out of proportion.
