Nikki Budzinski, the Democrat running for the open seat in the 13th Congressional District, convened a health care roundtable Saturday in which the main topic of discussion was the price of prescription drugs, including insulin.

A day before, the other candidate for the seat, Republican Regan Deering, said she is in favor of capping insulin costs – but as a stand-alone bill, not as part of, in this case, the mammoth Inflation Reduction Act.

“There is a really important provision that’s in that same piece of legislation,” said Budzinski, “was allowing Medicare to negotiate to lower the price of prescription drugs. and what you saw Friday was Kevin McCarthy, the presumptive speaker if Republicans take control of the House, actually saying he wants to specifically roll that back.”

Joining Budzinski was a health care advocate who performed at Woodstock: Jon “Bowzer” Bauman from Sha Na Na. Having just turned 75, Bauman said the legislation was a rare loss for Big Pharma. He said has been promoting affordable health care for about sixteen years.

And “Boezer” endorsed Budzinski as only he could:

“Bom-ba-ba-Bom-ba-Bom-ba-Bom-Bom-ba-ba-Bom-ba-Bom-Bom-da-Dang-da-Dang-Dang-Ding-da-Dong-Ding … Vote for Nikki Budzinski!”
